On August 14, 1956, he married the love of his life, Faynell Sherlock. Lonnie lived the majority of his life in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
He worked as a Union brick mason. He retired after receiving his "50 Year" gold card. Lonnie served the Muskogee Regional Junior Livestock Show for more than 40 years. His passion was helping the youth with livestock projects, attending the Oktaha basketball games, and watching NASCAR. He always had a new story to tell, we will miss those the most. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He was a good man.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faynell Fortney, his parents, Mary Edna Dixon Fortney; daughter, Lucille Royse; son, Lonnie Wayne Fortney; and 9 siblings.
He is survived by his daughter, Paula Baker and husband Danny of Eufaula; brother, Fred Fortney and wife Gayle of Stillwater, brother, Alvin Fortney of Clarkston, WA; grandchildren, Justin Baker and wife Katee of Eufaula, Courtney Berry and husband Dusty of Eufaula, J.R. Fortney and wife Allie of Oktaha, Chris Smith and wife Erica of Houston, Tyler Fortney of Muskogee, Jeremy Fortney of Muskogee, Crystal Ashwood and husband Howard of Muskogee, Donald Ray Royse, Greg Royse, Cindy Tollison, Kevin Royse, Jason Royse, all of Muskogee; along with numerous great-grandchildren who loved their Papa; and his special caregivers, Geraldine and Cheryl.
Lonnie will be laid to rest after a private family conducted memorial service at Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, November 16, 2019.
