In 1850 Abraham Stewart purchased 735 acres of land from Hugh Moore (son of *Burt Moore) which spanned on both sides of Eastatoe Creek in the Eastatoe Township of Eastern Pickens County, SC. Abraham died in 1857. His sons, A.J. (Andrew Jackson Stewart) and W.K. (William Keith Stewart) purchased the land from the estate. A.J. obtained the acreage which was called the homeplace, and W.K. obtained other acreage of the land and built a home. A. J. died in 1877, and was buried on the property in the family plot (which was on a portion of land owned by W.K.). A.J.’s wife and children continued to live on the land. After W.K.’s death in 1921, all of this land was divided. Nettie Delomia “Loma” Stewart Stansell, (daughter of W.K. and Sarah Malinda Chastain Stewart), who married Lee W. Stansell, was one of the last family owners of the Abraham Stewart family land. While living on the homeplace they had at least 2 children who died and are believed to be buried in the cemetery. Several adult and child Stewart family members were buried in this family plot between 1850 and 1930.

*Burt Moore, a soldier in the American Revolutionary War was the original owner of the land purchased by Abraham Stewart. Burt Moore purchased the land in 1804. Burt Moore is buried in this same burial plot, which would later become the Stewart family cemetery.
