Laveta Fern Adams Poe, 89, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully in her home in the presence of her loved ones on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.

As in all things in her life, she faced her illness with strength, dignity and grace. Laveta or “Granny” as she was known to her grandkids and great-granchildren, was born on February 16, 1930, in the Vista community of Hamilton County, the daughter of Emory Adams and Beulah Newton Adams. She grew up in Center City, Texas, but began school at McGirk. She then attended school at Center City until that school’s closing. From fourth grade through high school she attended school at Star, Texas, where she was a graduate of the class of 1948.

Laveta married Roland Poe on October 2, 1948, in Goldthwaite. They were blessed with 67 years of earthly marriage until his passing on January 23, 2016. A daughter, Deborah Poe and a son, Danny Poe were born into this special union.

During their marriage Laveta and Roland lived in Star, Texas, Hereford, Arizona, Canton, Mississippi and Cecilton, Maryland, before returning home to Hamilton County in 1963, where they had purchased property on the Cowhouse Creek.

Laveta loved her God, her Saviour, Jesus Christ and her family. Wherever they lived, she taught children’s Bible class and VBS. Upon moving to Hamilton, she and Roland became members of Reagan Street Church of Christ which later became Park Heights Church of Christ. Laveta was one of only a few remaining members who have worshipped at Park Heights since its inception.

Laveta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She was an expert seamstress and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed spoiling her family with her homemade wild plum jelly, hot yeast rolls, Thanksgiving dressing, desserts, good country food, but most of all love, She was Roland’s right hand “wo”man always helping feed the livestock, open gates and ferry trucks from farm to farm. Through the years she enjoyed attending Hamilton Bulldog sporting events of her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter; Deborah Poe, son; Danny Poe and wife Sheri all of Hamilton, her grandchildren; Derek Poe and wife Gina of Hamilton, Hillary Thom and husband Dennis of China Spring, Cari Ulrich and husband Kevin of LaGrange, and Dillan Poe of Hamilton. Also great-grandchildren; Denver and Averi Poe, Madilyn and Denton Thom, Tristin Ulrich, Garrison Ulrich and Brysen Ulrich, brother; Ira Adams and wife Lauretta of Evant.
