Roland "Pa" Poe, 83, of Hamilton, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016, doing what he loved, tending to his livestock.

Roland was born on August 4, 1932, in the Vista community of Hamilton County, the son of Avery Poe and Lera (Flatt) Poe. He grew up in Star, Texas where he attended school.

Roland married Laveta Adams on October 2, 1948 in Goldthwaite. They were blessed with 67 years of wonderful marriage. To this union were born two children, a daughter, Deborah Poe, and a son, Danny Poe.

Roland was herdsman and/or manager of ranches in Hereford, Arizona, Canton, Mississippi, and Cecilton, Maryland. In 1963 he returned with his family back home to Texas where they purchased their own house on the Cowhouse Creek in Hamilton County. He was also co-owner of the Hamilton Commission Company for 35 years with his partner, Bob Wright.

His vocation and hobby were one and the same, farming and ranching. Roland loved his God, his Savior, Jesus, his family, the land he tended, and the livestock that grazed upon it.

Survivors include his wife, Laveta Poe, his daughter, Deborah Poe, and son, Danny Poe, all of Hamilton. His grandchildren, Derek Poe and wife Gina of Hamilton; Hillary Thom and husband Dennis of Waco; Cari Ulrich and husband Kevin of La Grange; and Dillan Poe of Hamilton. Also, great-grand children, Denver and Averi Poe, Madilyn and Denton Thom, and Tristin and Garrison Ulrich; Two sisters, Nelda Smith and husband Roy of Lampasas, and Geraldine Geeslin of Hamilton; His brother, Wayne Poe and wife Aggie of Valley Mills; and his sister-in-law, Floy Poe of Bryan.

He was preceded in death by his brother Allen Poe, and his brother-in-law Elmer Geeslin.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton. The funeral is set for 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 27, also at Riley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hurst Ranch Cemetery near Star, Texas.
