Jack Dean Williams, Checotah resident, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in Muskogee, OK at the age of 92. He was born Tuesday, May 17, 1927 to Marion and Ruby (Cole) Williams in Fame, OK. He graduated high school at Onapa where he played on the basketball team. In 1945 he joined the Merchant Marines. He completed coast guard training at Catalina Island in California. He traveled to twelve countries. On Thursday, February 19, 1948 he married his sweetheart, Polly Dabbs, who he met at the skating rink in Eufaula. Together they opened and operated Williams General Store at Onapa. Later they moved the store. It was amusingly known as the “Onapa Country Club,” where members came to visit and sometimes discuss politics. Jack was a member of the Onapa Baptist Church. He was very active in the Democrat Party and held positions of county and district chairman. In 1968 he attended the Democratic Convention in Chicago. He was a member of Checotah Masonic Lodge #86, 32nd degree Mason, Bedouin Shrine and ROJ. In later years Jack continued to open the store mainly to visit with friends and if something was needed, he could come up with it. Jack Dean loved his wife, family and his service to his country. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Cole Williams and two infant sons. He is lovingly survived by his wife Polly; daughters, Jackie Moore and her husband Greg, Sarah Cloud and her husband Bill; his granddaughters, Ann Maxey and her husband Dalton and Hayley Moore. Jack is also survived by his grandson, Ethan Cloud; his great grandchildren, Sydney and Owen Roper, Ledger Maxey, Faran and Ella Cloud as well as other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
