Mabel Warner Bennett Sponaugle, 92, formerly of Circleville and a resident of the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in the nursing home. She was born Aug. 13, 1910, at Hunting Ground, the daughter of the late Charlie Warner and Mary Wimer Warner. She was twice married, first in June 1929 to Jimmie Jay Bennett, who preceded her in death in 1969, and second in May 1976 to George Cortland Sponaugle, who preceded her in death in 1987. She was preceded in death by one son, Glenn R. Bennett, who died on Dec. 30, 2002; three brothers, DeWitt Warner, Roy Warner and Arlie Warner; and two grandsons, David Lee Bennett and William Coleman Bennett.
Mrs. Sponaugle worked as a seamstress for the Franklin Garment Co. and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the North Fork Church of the Brethren for many years and served as superintendent and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 138 and the Spruce Knob Home Demonstration Club.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Dr. Paul O'Gorek will officiate and interment will follow in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pendleton County Rescue Squads.
