Mr. Ernest Gainer Sparrow, Jr., 82, died Saturday, August 31, 2019 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. George Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Powers Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Sparrow residence.
Ernest was born on April 16, 1937 in Pulaski County. He served in the Air Force and after serving four years, he married Nellie Cleo Swearingen. He was a farmer, and later worked at Robins Air Force Base until his retirement in 2013. He was a pilot, and loved flying his plane. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots association. Ernest was also an antique car enthusiast, and a lover of animals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Gainer and Alice Ruth Lancaster Sparrow, and a brother, John Cleveland Sparrow. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Swearingen Sparrow of Hawkinsville, Ga.; sons, Bruce Gainer Sparrow, and John Lawton Sparrow, both of Hawkinsville, Ga. sister-in-law, Virginia Stephens of Jonesboro, GA.; grandchildren, Abby Cleo Sparrow, and Timmy Sparrow, and 2 great grandchildren.
