Mary Ellen born in Kentucky with 10 siblings. At 20 years old became the 3rd wife of 35 year old Joseph LeRoy Ferris. She helped raise children from his 1st marriage and then her 13. They moved to Missouri then to McPherson Co, Kansas - finally settling in Stafford Co, Kansas where they lived out their lives. Mary Ellen traveled in the lasts years of her life living with her children in Nebraska and Kansas. She died at her daughter's family home in Sterling and was reported (in Sterling papers to be buried in the "Valley cemetery" and in "Avery cemetery".
