Broadlands—(CNS)—Prominent in the medical profession of Champaign County for nearly half a century, Dr. Thomas A. Dicks, 73, died at his home here at 6 a. m. Thursday, Mar. 28, 1940, on anniversary of his birth.
A member of the American Medical Association, State Medical Society, Champaign County Medical Society, and the Aescalupian Society, Dr. Dicks had practiced his profession in Broadlands since 1892. He was also a member of Broadlands Lodge, AF&AM, and Danville Consistory, AASR.
Born near Sylvania, Ind., Mar. 28, 1867, he was a son of Levi and Mary Dick. When he was 2 years old his parents moved to Sidney where he was living when he began his career as a physician. In 1892 he married Mary Harriett Thompson of Sidney, and shortly thereafter they moved to Broadlands.
In ill health for about a year, Dr. Dicks had been seriously ill for the last two weeks.
Surviving besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. LeRoy Hobbs, Indianapolis; three sons, Forest of Allerton and Carl and Kenneth, Broadlands; a sister, Mrs. Alice More, Hale, Mo., a brother, William, living near Auburn, Ind., and eight grandchildren. Two children, Arch, who died in 1922, and an infant daughter, Hazel, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at Broadlands Methodist Church, the Rev. J. F. Turner, pastor of United Brethren Church, the Rev. Earl Ballew of the Methodist Church and the Rev. James Parker of the Christian Church, officiating. Burial in Fairfield Cemetery. Until 11:30 a. m. Saturday the body will rest at the Methodist Church. Edward Carrington, Fairmount undertaker, is in charge.
