Jesse Dudney taken away in the Prime of Life, Jesse F. Dudney was called from this world of trial and care June 17th, 1892. He was born November 17th, 1870, being at the time of his death twenty-one years and seven months old. Jesse was left without a mother at the age of four, his aunt, Mrs. J. W. Hunt, then raised him until he was thirteen years of age, since then he has worked for himself, and took every opportunity of going to school. He had obtained an education so that he was very qualified for teaching, although he had never taught but one term. Jesse was a very bright and cheerful boy, always making friends. He will be so sadly missed by all that knew him; to know him was to love him. Jesse was converted during a series of meetings at White Oak held by Bro. J. B. Daniel about seven years ago; he joined the church at that place, but soon after united with the Baptist church at Mayesburg, where he lived a faithful Christian life until death. He began working in Guynn & Walker's drug store last fall; he then seemed to be a stout and strong boy, but about the first of January he had a hemorrhage of the lungs and then la grippe, then he was soon into that uncurable disease, consumption. He was taken to his uncle's, S. C. Harts, where all was done for him that could be done by earthly hands, but alas, God saw fit to take him up higher to a house not made with hands. His sufferings lasted twenty-five weeks. He was so patient and bore his suffering well; he was ready to die and often spoke about dying. He leaves two brothers beside other dear relatives to mourn his loss. We know he is far away from the storms of life, so free from all sorrow and pain, we will miss you so dear Jesse, but we would not wish you back in this world to suffer things of this life again; we will try to live so as to meet you in that brighter world above. The remains were laid to rest in the White Oak cemetery and the funeral services were held at that place by Rev. J. S. Porter. The pall bearers were Messrs. Allie Caldwell, Will and Deck Rayborn, Frank Covey, Charlie Caldwell and Allie Lake. (From The Henry County Republican, Clinton, Missouri, 30 June 1892, Thur.-Page 3)
