The Republican = Press, Butler, Bates County, MO, Friday, April 2, 1909 - Alvie Dudney Dead. Our community was greatly shocked by the sudden death of A.J. Dudney, who died of a heart failure Monday, March 15th. He with his son, Charley, had gone to the timber for wood about 10 o'clock, while laughing and talking he suddenly fell upon the ground, Charley hastened to him only to see him draw the last few breaths, He then hurried for help, the doctor was soon summoned, but the heart had ceased to beat, the spirit had taken its flight in the great beyond. The unexpected news was almost more than the grief stricken wife and children could bear - to think of him leaving home in his usual health and in a few hours brought home a corpse. He was born in Henry county, Mo., December 13, 1864, being at the age of 44 years, 3 months and 8 days. He was married to Mary Everman, February 18, 1888. A few years later his wife died, leaving two little sons, Arthur and Charley, who are grown now. On the 12th day of March, 1896, (at Butler) he was married to Rosa Compton. To this union were born two children, Minnie, a daughter of 11 years, and a little son, Jesse, of 5 years. He had been a member of the Baptist church for over twenty years and also a member of the Masonic order a number of years. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. J.A. Smith, of Dayton, his text was Hebrews 11:13-16. The remains was laid to rest in the Cove Creek cemetery by the Masonic order. - Urich Herald."

Note: Alvin's sister-in-law, Mattie Dudney (wife of William Dudney) is interred in nearby grave. His brother, Jesse, is buried in White Oak cemetery, Henry Co.)
