Anna was a daughter of James W. Ballard (he died prior to 1900 census) and Mary C. Ballard.

Her obituary was published in the 2-25-1960 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, Carter Co., MO on the front page under "Ellsinore News" (used with permission).

News reached here recently told of the sudden death of Mrs. Anne Dunbar at Joliet, Illinois, Feb. 7th. Mrs. Dunbar, a former Ellsinore girl was born Sept. 19, 1891 and reared in this vicinity and her girlhood days were spent here until her marriage to Josesph W. Dunbar, also of Ellsinore. They had made their home in Illinois for many years.

She was a daughter of Mrs. Mary Ballard who owned and operated hotels here for many years. She leaves besides her husband and two sons, Lee and Clarence at Joliet, Ill., two brothers, John Ballard of Poplar Bluffand Lee Ballard of Santa Cruz, California. Two sisters, Mrs. Fronia O'Howell and Mrs. Ardeau, one granddaughter at Wilder, Idaho, and several relatives in Carter and Wayne counties. Anne had been an active member of the Seventh Day Advent Church for many years, with a special interest in missionary work. Funeral services were held at the Sonntag Funeral Chapel in Joliet on Feb. 10, and burial took place at the Woodlawn cemetery in that city.

The passing of Mrs. Dunbar causes sadness to many of the older citizens here (including the writer) who grew up and attended school with Anne Ballard. At the same time it reminds us that "We're Going Down The Valley, One by One." We all send sympathy to Joe and the boys, and all those who sorrow.
