Maude Geneva Ballard was a daughter of James W. Ballard and Mary C. Ballard who married in Carter Co., MO on February 4, 1883 (After James death, Mary married and then divorced David Kelly). Maude had 5 known siblings: (Ballards--John A., Nancy S., Anna Hester, and Manley Leroy), and half-sister, Golda C. (Kelly) Neighbours.

Maude was a dear friend of my paternal grandmother, Delia Ann Box Alcorn, and I'm sure was sorely missed by her and many others when she passed away at only 27 years old. Her cause of death was peritonitis after experiencing a bowel obstruction.

Her obituary was published in the 7-1-1915 issue of The Current Local, Van Buren, Carter Co., MO on page 3 (used with permission).

"Miss Maude Ballard was born on Brushy Creek, March 22nd, 1888, and passed to the beyond June 25th, 1915, at the home of her mother, Mrs. M. C. Kelley, in Ellsinore.

Miss Maude was well known by everyone in this vicinity, having spent most of her life here, and besides her mother, three sisters and two brothers, she leaves a host of friends who mourn her demise. Although a member of no church she was a regular attendant at Sunday School and religious services. She was of a cheerful disposition and always ready to help one in time of need. Her last words were: "Will you follow me over."

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. E. Kingen and her body was laid to rest Saturday afternoon in the Henson cemetery near town. A large number of friends attended to pay their last respects to the departed and all the business houses closed while the funeral cortege passed through town.

We join with her many friends in extending sincere sympathy to the family in their sad bereavement."--Ellsinore Correspondent

Unfortunately I could not locate a tombstone for Maude in Henson Cemetery, even though I searched the entire area.
