Loretta M. Watters, 86, of Dubuque, died at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family.
In keeping with her wishes, private family services will be held at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery.
She was born on July 26, 1925, in Amber, Iowa, daughter of Theodore and Molly (Harms) Osterkamp. She married John M. Watters on Feb. 18, 1949, at St. John's Lutheran Church, and together they farmed in the Dubuque area for many years.
She was a member of the Center Grove United Methodist Church and the Center Grove, Rockdale Methodist Women and the Farm Bureau.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visiting with friends and spending time with her kitty cat on her lap watching the birds.
Surviving are her children, Marlene (Ronnie) Valentine, Dave (Carrie) Watters, Dennis Watters, Judy (Mike) Colson, Shirley (John) Zurcher and Jim (Jodi) Watters, all of Dubuque; 17 grandchildren, Robert, Steve, Lisa, Randy, Abby, Dillon, Drew, Nikki, Elley, Sarah, Hannah, Ethan, Michael, Molly, Sam, Tracy and Eli; 15 great- grandchildren; a sister, Annette (Wayne) Waller, of La Motte, Iowa; four brothers, Matthew "Sony" Osterkamp, of Alabama, Bill (Joyce) Osterkamp, of Center Junction, Iowa, Jim (Pat) Osterkamp, of Missouri, and Albert "Skip" (Alice) Osterkamp, of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on April 21, 2000; a daughter-in-law, Judy Watters; a great-grandson, Mason Watters; a sister, Marie Gansemer; two brothers, Harry and Carl; and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia and Geraldine Osterkamp.
Memorials may be given to the Center Grove Rockdale United Methodist Women.
The family wishes to thank the Tri-State Dialysis staff and the wonderful friends she made in the waiting room, also thanks to Hospice of Dubuque, Stonehill Care Center and the Center Grove Rockdale UMW for all the wonderful care, kindness and friendship they all have given Loretta.
