Nolan was born in Rosehill Township, Oklahoma and was a retired machinist. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He married Betty Runkle on September 6, 1947. He was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Aubrey Stringer; and grandson, Dana. Survivors include his son, Robert Stringer, Sr.; daughter, Karen Matthews; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
