Cornelius Semore York is the 12th child and son of Joab York and his wife Martha Lucinda Yeargin. Cornelius was very close to his brother Charles Richard YORK. They had decided to get off the farm and become entrepreneurial business associates in retail sales in Brazil, Clay County, Indiana.

Cornelius YORK, age 26, first married Kate Lillie MARSHALL, age 17 on 1882 in Brazil, Clay County, Indiana where he had opened a retail music store. They sold sewing machines, York Pianos, pump Organs, and produce according to the U S Census records. Cornelius and Kate were the parents to three children one which died as an infant:

1. Clyde Wilmer YORK
2. Charles E YORK
3. Edna Marie YORK

Sadly Kate died on 28 Apr 1896, age 30; perhaps from complications from child birth of fourth infant. Now Cornelius quickly needed a mother for his two surviving children and a helper for running the retail store. Most likely there were increasing sales from his traveling salesman, Charles R YORK.

So Cornelius married a second time to Minnie M. TRIPLETT, age 19, on May 1900 in Brazil, Clay County, Indiana. She was great wife, step mother and a very helpful bookkeeper for the business. The business must have flourished because according to the 1920 US Census. Clyde York and a cousin Nora BRYAN were clerking in the music store in addition to Cornelius plus Charles R YORK on the road.

By 1925 Minnie died and Clyde YORK is a salesman in the Music Store bu 1930. Then Cornelius dies in 1931 and Charles in 1937.
It is believed the music store in Brazil was an authorized outlet for the York Pianos, manufactured by the Weaver Piano Company in York Pennsylvania. The York Piano brand name was built and sold by The Weaver Piano Company. The York Piano was built as one of Weaver’s most popular models and they were known as being very well made instruments. In addition to The York Piano, Weaver built a full line of upright pianos, player pianos, organs and grand pianos.
