A heartfelt thanks to contributor, Dennis York (47405652) for the following:
Cornelius York, 26, first married Kate Lillie Marshall, 17, March 24, 1881, in Brazil, Clay County, Indiana, where he had opened a retail music store. They sold sewing machines, York pianos, pump organs, and produce according to U.S. Census records.
Cornelius and Kate were the parents to three children one who died as an infant: Clyde Wilmer York, Charles E. York and Edna Marie York.
Sadly at 30, Kate died April 28, 1896; perhaps from complications from childbirth of a fourth infant.
Cornelius quickly needed a mother for his two surviving children and a helper for running the retail store. Most likely there were increasing sales from his traveling salesman and brother, Charles R York.
So Cornelius married a second time to Minnie M. Triplett, 19, May 1900 in Brazil, Clay County, Indiana. She was great wife, step-mother and a very helpful bookkeeper for the business.
