Ruth Edens Davidson, 89, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.
She was born on December 1, 1929 in Brown Switch, VA to the late Mack and Mollie Edens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben F. Davidson Jr; siblings, Robert Edens, Pauline Harris, Kathleen Harris, Evelyn Bacon, Lucille Graham, Gene Edens and Kenneth Edens.
She is survived by her son, Gary and Peggy Davidson of Naples, FL; daughters, Sandra Davidson of Kingsport, TN, Benita and Eddie Rutherford of Blountville, TN, Melissa “Missy” Davidson and Gloria Basse of Damascus, VA; granddaughters, Shelley Stevens of Kingsport, TN and Amber Krape of Naples, FL; grandson, Chad and Jennifer Rutherford of Kingsport, TN; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Alexa Winkle, Savannah, Jackson and Greyson Rutherford and Bryan Krape; one brother, Drs. Wallace and Eleana Edens of Woodlands, TX; brother and sister-in-law, William R. and Pattie Davidson; brother-in-law, Dr. Richard A. Davidson; sister-in-law, Hazel Edens; several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Prissy.
Ruth and her husband, Ben, were long time owners and operators of Davidson Funeral Homes. She was a lifelong member of Jonesville First United Methodist Church where she had served as children’s choir director for many years. Ruth was very active in her community and was a founding member and President Emeritus of the the Lee Players. She was also an avid golfer and charter member of Cedar Hill Country Club.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Jonesville First United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Layne Pennington and Ruth’s niece, Patricia Murphree, officiating.
Graveside services will follow in the Jonesville Town Cemetery with Mr. Patton Speak and Mr. Richard Davis officiating. Pallbearers will be her nephews and great-nephews.
