Ada was the eldest of three children of Robert Marion Caples and Ella D. Hutson. She never married, always living at home and took care of both her parents in their final illnesses. Ada had been a schoolteacher at Watson's Schoolhouse. She died at the family home at Newport, which she shared with her nephew, Robert and his wife, suffering a heart attack while in the basement of the house.
