THE PARIS NEWS, Fri, July 26, 1935: “Roxton - Funeral services for John F. Landers, who died at 11:30 a.m. o’clock Thursday morning at his home here after a brief illness, was arranged for 3 o’clock Friday afternoon at the residence, conducted by Dr. F. L. Wear of Central Presbyterian Church, Paris, assisted by the Rev. F. D. Coppin, Baptist pastor here, with interment at Restland Cemetery. J. T., Ray and Mitchell Landers, Oscar Childress and Rob and Tom Owen were named pallbearers. John Franklin Landers was born October 27, 1851 in Shelbyville, Tenn, and moved to Melburne, Ark., when 12 years old, coming to Texas in 1896. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, of the Odd Fellows and Woodsmen lodges and when a very young man, became a Mason. He had served many years on the County School Board, much of the time as Chairman, and took part in all movements for the betterment of is Community. He was twice married, his first wife to whom seven children were born, being Miss Mahalia Nail. His second wife, who died August 20, 1932, was Miss Catherine Jenkins. Of his 17 children, 14 survive, Mrs. J. H. Adams, Byers; Mrs. T. A. Crafton, Cunningham; Mrs. J. W. Woodridge and Mrs. W. J. Stockton, Paris; Miss Geneva Landers, Shreveport, La.; J. F. Landers, Jr., Denison; E. G. Landers, Houston; Mrs. G. M. Bowen, C. O., R. K., T. R. and Ray Landers, all of Roxton. All were present at the funeral. One brother, Joe L. Landers of Sweetwater, is the last surviving member of a family of 10 children. Mr. Landers leave also 43 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.” Submitted by Carol Campbell.
