Philomene married her first cousin William (Bill) John Ernst in 1917. They had one daughter, Frances, and farmed near Dunlap on land inherited from the elder Ernsts. Philomene continued farming after Bill died in 1962. She eventually reached the age of 103.
Although her final years were spent in a nursing home near her daughter in Missouri, Bill and Philomene are buried together in Dunlap.

PHILOMENE ERNST DIES AT AGE 103
EDELSTEIN -- Philomene F. Ernst, 103, of Laurie, Mo., formerly of Edelstein,
died Monday, Sept. 6, 1993, at Laurie Knolls in Laurie.
Born March 29, 1890, in Dunlap to Albert and Elizabeth Rath Ernst, she married William J. Ernst on Dec. 8, 1916. He died March 8, 1962. Two brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Frances Stoller of Gravois Mills, Mo.; four
grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Dunlap.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at her church. Monsignor Charles Beebe will officiate. Family will receive friends one-half hour before services at the church. Burial will be in St. Clements Cemetery in Dunlap. Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie is in charge of arrangements.
