Elijah Truitt Richey died Wednesday, March 30, 1938 at his home in the Pine Forest community. He died from complications of pneumonia after a fall on his porch on ice. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Merideth Wyatt, and Rev. DeVore at the Pine Forest Methodist church. Burial was in the Pine Forest cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, and the following children: Mrs. Joe Post, Paul Richey and Andrew Richey of Pine Forest, and Cil Richey of Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was born in Hopkins County January 21, 1859. He married Mary Josephine Anglin on November 24, 1881 in Gilmer, Texas. They were given a 40 acre farm in Upshur County by his Aunt "Mat" Hefner to live on and work. They lived there one year raising cotton, corn and ribbon-cane. After that year they saved enough money to move back to Hopkins County and buy a part of his dad's land. They settled about two miles east of Pine Forest where they built a dog-trot house, farmed, and raised cows and horses. They were the parents of six children. Mary preceded him in death on March 13, 1894. He married Mrs. Sarah Zorada Gray Rains on Aug 17, 1897 in Hopkins County, Texas. He and Sarah had one child.

"E T" was a farmer, carpenter and Methodist minister. He liked to play hymns on an old pump organ.
