He was united in marriage to Eleanor Eckman at DeSmet, South Dakota on December 31, 1938. They farmed until her death on August 16, 1976 after which he retired. He was married to Maym Martin in 1986 in Brookings, South Dakota and he lived in Brookings before moving to Sioux Falls in 1999. Maym died in 2005 and he lived at the Helping Hands Assisted Living Center in Brandon before moving to Golden Living Center in Lake Norden in March of 2007. Gordon died there on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 8 days.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church and a past member of the Farm Bureau and the National Farmers Organization.
Grateful for having shared his life are one son Robert Bentley and his wife Pam of Lake Norden; three daughters, Roslynn Person of Charleston, SC, JoAnn Prouty and her husband Berlyn of Ford, WA, Kay Ames and her husband Ronald of Valley Springs, SD; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four step children, Delores Pries of Parkston, SD, Barbara Herrick of Mitchell, SD, David Martin and Julie Kinstad and her husband Les, all of Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Eleanor of 38 years and Maym of 18 years, his parents, one granddaughter Tanya Bentley of Bryant, three brothers and eight sisters.
