JoAnn Marilyn PROUTY (1943 - 2016)

JoAnn M. Prouty of Ford, Washington, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on March 14, 2016. JoAnn was born June 13th, 1943 on the family farm in rural Bryant, South Dakota, daughter of Gordon and Eleanor Bentley. She grew up on the farm, in which she was baptized, confirmed and attended Garfield Lutheran Church, built by her forefathers. She attended rural school and Bryant High School. She was united in marriage to her best friend, soul mate and husband, Berlyn E. "Bert" Prouty, March 8th, 1960 at Garfield Lutheran Church, who was by her side upon her death. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into her heart at Clark, South Dakota Assembly of God Church, which was the beginning of her deep, Christian devotion. JoAnn and Berlyn lived for a short time in Chicago, IL, eastern South Dakota, and a significant time in the suburbs and rural area north of the Twin Cities, Minnesota. There she worked at the Arsenal, Ball Electronics and drove bus for both Isanti and North Branch school districts. They resided in Walla Walla, finally building a log home, retired, and lived for the last 25 years in Ford, Washington, near the Spokane Indian Reservation. She attended, taught Sunday school and was a founding member and co-pastor in the building of Ford Community Church. JoAnn loved to travel, drive, and read books, she studied the Bible, and wrote poetry. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, walks and the environment. She enjoyed watching PBR bull riding, watching local basketball, pow wows, listening to bluegrass, gospel, gardening and raising horses and farm animals with her husband. She was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, sister, aunt, great aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many. She mostly loved all children and always prayed for them and her family and friends. Grateful to have shared her life is her husband of 56 years, Berlyn; her children Kevin (Merri) Prouty, Ford, WA; Bernard (Dawn) Prouty, Kenosha, WI; Bret (Sharena) Prouty, McMinnville, OR; Melita (Rick) Clary, Post Falls, ID. Deeply missed by her brother Robert (Pam) Bently, Lake Norden, SD; sister Roselyn Person, Summerville, SC; sister Kay (Ron) Ames of Valley Springs, SD; close cousin Kenny Olson, spiritual mom, Ormelle Hedblad; 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, foster children, cousins, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother-in-law and one niece. The family would like to thank for the care, kindness and prayers provided by JoAnn's doctors, nurses, aids, hospital, clinic and hospital staff; and the love and prayers by her Ford Community Church family, Spokane Reservation Tribe family and numerous friends, family and neighbors. An evening vigil and visitation will be held at church starting at 7:00 PM, Friday evening, March 18, 2016. JoAnn's Going Home Memorial Celebration will start at 10:00 AM at Ford Community Church, Ford, Washington, Saturday, March 19, 2016, followed by Christian Burial at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Ford, Washington. Condolences may be set to JoAnn's family at P.O. Box 172, Ford, WA 99031-0172.
