April 22, 1933 - May 22, 2019 Sammie Jane Bowman, 86, passed away on May 22, 2019. Born April 22, 1933, to parents, W.W.(Witts) Bowman and Sarah (Sadie) Browder Bowman of Germanton, N.C. Pre-deceased by parents, five brothers, six sisters. Sammie achieved so much in her life through all the challenges she faced. She was an exceptionally intelligent woman, who always spoke her mind. She had a terrific memory and many wonderful stories to tell. Truly an exceptional friend. Sammie is survived by her sister, Sara Johnson of Walnut Cove, N.C., and several nieces and nephews. Our thanks to SRDA Meals on Wheels, especially Al and Kathy for providing Sammie her "nourishment." Thanks to New Century Hospice, especially Nurse Kari Vastine and Pastor Tom Blair, for their understanding and support. Also, special thanks to her caregivers, Violet Melton (deceased) and Kelvin Melton; her neighbor, Frank Roldan; and special friends who stayed in touch from afar, giving Sammie many hours of special times, assistance, and conversation, Diane Donovan in Denver and Carol Fry in Florida. Special mention to the Talking Book Library for all the books she was able to listen to and all the adventures they let her enjoy. Memorials may be sent to SRDA Meals on Wheels (230 North Union Avenue, Pueblo, CO 81003), Guide Dogs for the Blind (P.O. Box 3950, San Rafael, CA, 94912-3950), or the charity of your choice. Rest in peace Sammie and may God always bless you. Winston Salem Journal 6/3/2019
