Mr. Rex Milton Bowman, 61, 924 Cloister Dr., died Saturday at Forsyth Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Stokes County, July 28, 1927, to Walter Walker and Sarah Elizabeth Jane (Sadie) Browder Bowman.
He was a retired driver for Roadway Express with 37 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 391 and received numerous awards, including the Three Million Mile Safe Driving Award.
Mr. Bowman was a charter member of Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church and helped form the youth program. He was a Merchant Marine during World War II and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly thereafter.
Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Alice McBride Bowman, of the home; five sisters: Mrs. Hazel Shiners, Santa Anna, Calif., Mrs. Adelaide Hoffman, Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Sara Johnson, Lewisville, Ms. Sammie Jane Bowman, Pueblo, Colo. and Mrs. Hilda Sue Amacker, Washington, D.C.; two brothers: Kermit (John) Bowman, Jamestown and Jack Bowman, Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, W.M. (Bill) Bowman, in February 1988.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by Rev. Charles Gibbons and Mr. Bill Teague. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
The family requests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
