Merlin “Parley” Johnson

PRICE-The legend, Merlin Pratt “Parley” Johnson, sold his last Buick on May 6, 2019.

He was born October 13, 1932 in Price, Utah to Parley Pratt and Jennie Wickman Johnson.

Parley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High School. After graduation he honorably served in the US Army from 1952-1954. Upon returning from the service he attended Carbon College. On August 20, 1955, Parley married the love of his life, Bonnie Ann Oliver in Price.

In 1959 Parley began selling cars in Carbon County where he had an incredible gift of selling cars and making friends. Parley lived for selling cars and farming. During his illustrious 56 years as a salesman (1959-2015), Parley made many friends and even taught his good friend, Tony Basso a thing or two about cars.

Parley was a member of the Price Elk’s Lodge #1550 and the Price Jaycees. He will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.

Survived by his children, Steven P. (Jodi) Johnson, Susan J. (Scott) Jensen, both of Price; brother, LaVell (Darlene) Johnson, Garden Grove, CA; six grandchildren, Sara, Carlie, Mindy, Jayson, Levi and Jorden; 15 great-grandchildren and one more on the way.

Parley was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bonnie Johnson (who passed away on January 4, 2019); grandson, Michael S. Johnson; four brothers and two sisters.

Graveside service, Friday, May 10, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at the Cliffview Cemetery in Price.
