Zane Kay Campbell was born in Condon, Gilliam County, Oregon to Franklin Merle Campbell, Sr., and Bessie Yunita Farrar, 20 December 1931. This marriage ended in divorce in 1931 in Condon, Oregon. [Bessie married again, and had another son, Terry. F. Merle married again and had two sons, F.Merle, Jr., and Mark.]

Zane attended Oregon State College, the University of California in Los Angeles, where he earned Master's of Business Administration, and completed an executive MBA program at Carnegie Mellon University.

Zane entered active military service, in January 1951 in Portland, Oregon, as a corpsman, and transferred to the Marines. He Served as a Medic for Fleet Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was Honorably Discharged from the US Navy in November 1954, in San Francisco, California.

Soon after Zane was discharged from the US Navy, he married Neva Tipley in December 1954, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Condon, Oregon.

He worked for Aerojet General, then joined Omark Industries in 1965. He did strategic planning, served as director of corporate development, pursuing acquisitions, funding product development and process improvements. In 1980, he joined the Oregon Graduate Institute and later Martech Associates.

Zane was appointed to the State Council on Developmental Disabilities and Comprehensive Health Planning Authority. He was also board president of Holladay Park Hospital.
