FRANKLIN "MERLE" CAMPBELL
Franklin "Merle" Campbell, a Damascus resident who worked in law enforcement most of his life, died in his home Sunday. He was 74.
At his request, no service will be held. Private interment will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery in The Dalles.
Mr. Campbell was born in Boyds, Wash., and raised in The Dalles. He moved to the Milwaukie-Damascus area in 1957. He was a retired special agent for Union Pacific and Southern Pacific railroads. He also had been a professional wrestler during the 1930s and early 1950s and owned a gym in The Dalles. He was a commercial fisherman until 1953 and was a lifelong breeder of English Mastiff dogs and wolves. During the 1930s and early 1940s he owned a dog-food manufacturing business.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; four sons, Zane K. of Milwaukie, F. Merle Jr. of Boring, Thomas H. of Gresham and Mark S. of Clackamas; a brother, Vernon W. of The Dalles; a sister, Evelyn Fenter of Portland; and six grandchildren.
