Mrs. Bernice Jean Gray Courtney, age 88, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on January 20, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late James Allen and Flossie Hinton Gray. She was raised in Louisville and graduated there. On July 10, 1956 she was united in marriage to Tony E. Courtney in Coeur d' alene, Idaho. This happy union of 43 years was blessed with daughters, Anna Jean, Glenda Sue, and Carol, and sons, Tony, Dennis, Donnie and Jimmy. The family moved to Milton, Kentucky in 1964 and to the farm in Jefferson County in 1968. She retired after 30 years of service with the Madison State Hospital as a psychiatric attendant. She was a member of the Liberty Christian Church near Madison. Bernice was a devoted wife, loving mom, and grandma. She enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family and farm hands. She helped her husband on the family farm and later in life enjoyed playing Bingo. She loved watching the birds, especially cardinals and hummingbirds. In her later years her faithful companion, Lady Bug brought much joy to her life. Bernice died on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at 8:10 a.m. at her home in Madison, Indiana with her loving family at her side.

A LOVING FAMILY
Bernice will be missed by his loving daughter, Carol Munson and her husband, Steve of Madison, Indiana; her loving sons, Tony Courtney and his wife, Rita of Bedford, Kentucky, Dennis Courtney and his wife, Vickie of Madison, Indiana, Donnie Courtney and his wife, Tammy of Ozark, Alabama; 12-grandchildren; 28-great grandchildren; 1-great great grandson; her brother, Billy Gray of Lagrange, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by father, James Allen Gray, mother, Flossie Hinton Gray, husband of 43 years, Tony E. Courtney, died April 15, 1999, daughter, Anna Jean "Jeanie" Garriot, died March 29, 2001, daughter, Glenda Sue "Susie" Herrell, died June 25, 2007, her son, James "Jimmy" Courtney, died September 8, 2013, her sisters, Mildred Hall, Noreen Bolton, and Cora Maye Ryan, and her brother, Paul Ray Gray.

FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 20, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., by Bro. Jake Brown and Evangelist Bill Kendall at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, 9306 North U.S. 421 near Madison, Indiana.

VISITATION
Friends may visit Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana.
