Military Service during the Revolutionary War: Listed as Fred'ck Hittel, a substitue for Michael Ehrhard (his brother-in-law who married his sister Christina), in the 3rd Battalion, in the company under Captain John Wagener, as of August 18, 1781. His brother Jacob is listed as his substitute. He is listed as a substitute for Baltes Boochecker, 1782, 4th Battalion, Northampton County, Captain Jesse Jones, 4th class. Frederick was 19 and 20 years old, at the time, and like his brother Jacob he was undoubtedly living at home. He would marry in 1787.

As was common in the early Pennsylvania German communities of the 1700's a child's first name was a dedication name. The middle name was the given name they often went by as is the case of Frederick. He never went by Jurg (German for George) as his military record bears out. The same held true with several of his elder brothers, who also shared the same first name George. All of these brothers also served in the Revolutionary War in the Pennsylvania Militia.

George "Frederick" Hittle was the 12th child (of 12) of George Michael Hittle, Sr. (1714-1786) a veteran of the Revolutionary War and the French and Indian War, along with his wife Anna Maria (Schlauch) Hittle (1714-1806). The family lived in Salisbury Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania (now part of Lehigh County), where Frederick was born. Frederick along with his five older brothers and his father all served in the Revolutionary War with the Pennsylvania Militia from Northampton County. Following the conclusion of the Revolutionary War, in the early 1790's, Frederick came to what is now Columbia County, PA along with his wife Maria. He followed on the heels of his eldest brother George "Michael" Hittle, Jr. (1841-1828) and Frederick's older sister Catherine (Hittle) Knappenberger (1746-1829) and her husband who all came and settled in Columbia County, Pennsylvania following the Revolution. At that time, Columbia County was part of Northumberland County until 1813. Catherine and her husband Johan Georg Knappenberger also lived in Catawissa Township near Frederick and his family. Elder brother George "Michael" Hittle, Jr. lived over in what is now Mount Pleasant Township, previously called Fishing Creek Township and Bloom Township.

The Ten Children he had by wife Elizabeth "Mary" Kutz, who he married in Salisbury Township, Northampton County, PA (now Lehigh County) on June 8, 1787, are listed below. Maria, sometimes referred to as Mary, passed away just a few years after the birth of their last child Mathilda :
