Alvin Joseph Collins, of Prudenville died April 3, 2019 in Fort Myers, Florida while vacationing for the winter
Alvin was born March 19 1931, the son of George and Mary Gulick Collins. He grew up in Flint, and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949. He had three brothers, Harold, James, and Charles, and one sister Marion, all have predeceased him. He served in the United States Army from 1952 through 1954. On November 10, 1951, he married Ruth Nielsen Chapman, and they were married for 59 years before Ruth passed away on February 27, 2011. Alvin worked for General Motors Pontiac Division for 33 1/2 years, retiring July 1, 1987. Al and Ruth had four children, sons Michael (Deborah) Collins and Robert(Sandra) Collins, and daughters Linda Collins and Cynthia Jameyfield. Al and Ruth also had 9 grandchildren, Ryan (deceased) and Randy Percival, Michelle (Austin) Harris, Melissa (Brandon) Krugh, Lauren (Timothy) Groenhof, Christopher(Sabrina) Collins, Nicholas (Stephanie) Collins, Emily (Todd) Moore and Cody Jameyfield, and 9 great grandchildren. Al married Therese Hutson on September 23, 2017 in Prudenville and she survives him. He is a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Prudenville, Houghton-Higgins Lake Elks 1982, and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Houghton Lake. Throughout his life, Al enjoyed traveling, camping, and collecting classic automobiles, and participating in car shows through the Rusty Nuts Car Club in Houghton Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday April 27, 2019 at 11 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Father Peter Eke officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm at Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel on Friday April 26, 2019 and at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on Saturday April 27, 2019 from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy. Memorials contributions in memory of Alvin are asked to be directed to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society. Christler Funeral Home- Prudenville Chapel is handling the arrangements.
