DeVan Oscar Eskelson, 86, passed away Sept. 3, 2000 at the Serenity Ranch in Oakley, Utah.

Born May 4, 1914 in Woods Cross, UT, the son of Oscar Edwin and Laura Lucinda (Hatch) Eskelson. De-Van graduated from BYU in accounting, then worked for a-while at the Kamas State Bank. He then was Accounting and Credit Manager with Ahlander Wholesale and Hardware in Provo for over 40 years, working until he was 77 years old. DeVan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an avid BYU fan and was a member of the Cougar Club. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, golfing, and tennis.

DeVan lived all but the first seven years of his life with a disability, which required him to use crutches. Amazing as it seems he overcame this problem and went ahead with his life accomplishing many great things. He played basketball, a good game of tennis, which many claim he could not be beaten easily because of the strength he developed in his upper body. Devan climbed to the top of Mount Timpanogas. He also held a record at BYU for hand-over-hand rope climb. He was well known for his ability to fish and hunt deer and pheasant.

DeVan was a true example of courage and patience. He had good to say about everyone and was never known to be a negative or complaining person. He was truly a great son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend to have. "We will miss him."

Survived by sisters, Beth Eskelson Barney, Midvale, UT, Deone (Willis) Eskelson Rogers, Emmett, ID; sister-in-law, Elma (Lenard) Swain Eskelson, Bountiful, UT; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces, with whom he was always happy for what they accomplished. Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucinda Eskelson Lewis; and a brother, Lenard Eskelson.

The family wishes to thank the East Lake Care Center in Provo and Serenity Ranch and staff in Oakley, UT for their care and help. Especially we thank Marcene Littledike and Audry Stembridge for the many hours they spent helping DeVan.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thurs. Sept. 7, in the Kamas LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Church 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will follow in the Bountiful City Cemetery at 2 p.m. Crandall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
