Mrs Polly Pogue, aged 85yrs, died at her home east of this city last Thurs morning. Last July she fell and fractured her hip and had been an invalid since. She had been a resident of this county all her life. Her remains were interred at White River cemetery last Saturday. Services were conducted by Rev. Pontius of Saratoga.
Mary Coats was born in Randolph County on July 23, 1821 and departed this life on Feb 28, 1907, aged 85y7m5da. She was a daughter of John and Sally Coats, pioneer settlers of this county, to whom 14 children were born and 12 lived to adulthood. She was married to Francis Hickman of Jan 1, 1837 and to this union were born 5 ch - 2 boys and 3 girls - of which only 2 daughters remain to mourn her death. She was left a widow to fight the battles of life alone. She again married to William Pogue on June 8, 1850, but alas death again entered the home and again she was alone. She held a birthright in the Society of Friends, but about 30yrs ago she united with the Christian church at Harrisville. Aunt Polly was familiarly known and universally beloved.
NOTE: her daughters names were NOT given; her 2 surviving brothers are Lewis and Dempsey.
