Obituary

Last week The Chronicle gave a brief announcement of the death of Mrs. Katharine McCormick.

Our time for going to press was so soon after her death that we were then unable to publish a sketch of her life, but which we do now.

Katharine Bolsinger was born in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, on September 15, 1820. She was married in 1838 to Nelson McCormick. With her husband she came to Kansas in the spring of 1857. They settled on the farm three miles east of Burlingame, where she lived till the time of her death.

Her husband died about thirty years ago, and in 1888 she was married to D. McCormick a brother of her first husband. L.D. McCormick died in 1893.

Mrs. McCormick joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church at the age of twelve years and was the means of converting her own father. After her second marriage she joined the M.E. church, that being the choice of her husband.

During her first marriage Mrs. McCormick became the mother of nine children; six of them are now living. They are: C.C. McCormick, Booth C. McCormick, Mrs. M.J. Hedges, Mrs. Samuel Hoover, Mrs. Silas Robinson and Mrs. C.C. Robinson. The funeral services were held at the late home, Rev. J.Q. Foresman officiating and the remains were interred in the Highland cemetery.

Mrs. McCormick ever lived a true Christian life, was a devoted mother, a kindly neighbor and constant friend. In her death this community has lost one of its oldest and most estimable inhabitants.
