Born Feb. 26, 1936, in Bakers Mills, she was the daughter of the late James and Cordie (Russell) Dalaba.
Shirley was a stay-at-home mom raising six children. Her hobbies included cooking, knitting, gardening, crocheting, babysitting, listening to country music and her talking books. Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walker J. (Red) Wheeler; seven brothers, Erwin, Gerald, Grover, Cleyon, Preston, Glen and Sheldon Dalaba; six sisters, Loreta Tyrel, Ruth Robinson, Baby Sister, Althea Monroe, Patricia Mosher and Mildred Dalaba.
Survivors include her six children, Delvin Wheeler of Pottersville, Dennis (Kim) Wheeler of North Creek, Penny Wheeler of Pottersville, Patty Wheeler of Pottersville, Darren (Amy) Wheeler of Schroon Lake and Duane Wheeler of Schroon Lake; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Dalaba of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Paige and Zachary; and several nieces and nephews.
At Shirley’s request, there will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Pottersville Cemetery, state Route 9, Pottersville.
Memorials in Shirley’s memory may be made to North Warren Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 323, Chestertown, NY 12817, or the charity of one’s choice.
