She was born in about 1851 in California, the third known child of William McFadden Foster and Sarah Ann Charlotte (Murphy) Foster of the Donner Party. Her name was given as Georgianna in one early record. She married Henry Thomas Powell in 1866 in Marin County, CA and had six children by him. In about 1881, shortly after the birth of their last child, Henry left the home, and she heard nothing more from him. Presuming that he had died she remarried to James Wallace Warden in 1898 in San Francisco. However, in about May 1908 she discovered that her first husband was actually still living in a veterans home in Napa County, CA. The following year her second marriage was annulled in San Francisco, and she went back to using the Powell surname.
