Back From Washington

Charles F. Allison, Carolina avenue jeweler, returned home Saturday afternoon from a week's visit with his son, Charles, Jr., a page at Washington, D. C. During his stay in the capitol city, Mr. Allison visited many places of interest. On Thursday morning, accompanied by his son, he visited the president. He also attended the funeral of the late Captain Boyd, who was killed in Mexico recently. Young Allison will return to this city at the close of the present session of congress, to complete his high school course.

C. F. Allison Improved.

Slight improvement was noted Thursday in the condition of C. F. Allison. Members of the family stated this morning that Mr. Allison had put in a fairly good night.

But little hopes are being entertained for the recovery of Charles F. Allison, Chester jeweler, who is ill at his home in Carolina avenue. Members of the family last night telegraphed for his son, Charles F. Jr., who is attending school at the University of Virginia, at Charlottesville, Va. Mrs. Allison was taken ill Friday, suffering from a nervous breakdown.

Chas. F. Allison, Aged 61, Is Dead

Lifelong Resident of County Succumbs to 10 Weeks' Illness -- Democratic Leader for Many Years.

Charles F. Allison, 61, life - long resident of Hancock county, died at his home on Carolina avenue, at 1 o'clock Monday morning, following a ten weeks' illness of a complication of diseases. Mr. Allison has been in failing for a number of years. His condition however, was not considered critical until about a month ago. Three weeks ago, he began to improve and for a while it was thought he would recover. His condition, however, became worse again about a week ago. He was born in Hancock county on September 26, 1859. He resided on a farm for many years. In 1900, Mr. Allison was elected to the sheriff's office, serving until 1904. During the first term of President Wilson, he served as deputy United States marshal in the First district of West Virginia. In politics, Mr. Allison was a Democrat and was active in political circles in the county. He was a personal friend of William Jennings Bryan, and also of John W. Davis, ambassador to the Court of St. James at England. He was a member of the Chester I.O.O.F. and Knights of Pythias lodges and was also a Scottish Rite Mason. He was affiliated with the First Presbyterian church of Chester. Mr. Allison is survived by his wife, formerly Sarah Cameron, two sons and two daughters: Donald Allison of Omaha, Neb.; Charles Allison, Jr., a student at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.; Mrs. Fred Dunn, of Chester, and Miss Ethel Allison, at home. One brother, O.O. Allison, and two sisters, Mrs. John Glass and Mrs. Jennie Bernard, all of Chester. Funeral services will be conducted at the late residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. H. W. Hanna, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview cemetery, East Liverpool. At dying request of Mr. Allison, friends are requested to omit flowers. C. F. Allison Funeral Is Held Here Today

A large number of out - of - town people arrived in Chester this morning to attend the funeral of the late Charles F. Allison, conducted at his home in Carolina avenue at 2 o'clock this afternoon. They included people from New Cumberland, Weirton and all parts of Hancock county. There were also friends from Wheeling, Pittsburg,Youngstown, Warren, East Palestine and other points. Among them were: Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Sturgis, Youngstown; Ed Osborn, Pittsburg; Mr. and Mrs. George Gosney, East Palestine; Dominick Meszettero, Wooster; Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Jones, James Starkey and David Reese, Warren, O., and Fred Rogers, McKee's Rocks, Pa. Rev. H. W. Hanna, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, conducted the funeral service. Burial was made in Riverview cemetery at East Liverpool.

Club Meeting Postponed.

Owing to the death of C. F. Allison, the regular meeting of the Chester Women's club, which was to have been held Monday afternoon with Mrs. Elizabeth Clapperton as hostess, (Continued on Page Nine) (Continued from Page Six) was postponed. Mrs. Allison, wife of the deceased, is one of the members of the club. The club's next meeting will be held on Monday, March 21.

Business Men Honor C. F. Allison's Memory

Every business house and office in Chester, with but one or two exceptions, will be closed between the hours of 2 and 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon out of respect for the late Charles F. Allison, a local jeweler. It has been customary for a majority of the Chester stores to close every Wednesday afternoon but the heads of those concerns and offices not affected by this agreement have announced their intentions of locking their doors during the hour of the funeral which has been set for 2 o'clock. The funeral services will be in charge of Rev. Hugh Willard Hanna, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, of which the deceased was a member. Burial will be made in Riverview cemetery, East Liverpool.
