Samuel Allison was a son of Charles Allison, whose father, Jonathan Allison, died in his ninety-sixth year, the latter's father, Datty Allison (James Allison), being buried on his 100th birthday. Charles Allison was eighty-six years of age at the time of his demise, so it will be seen that this is a family somewhat noted for its longevity. Samuel Allison lived at the old home two miles south of Chester, at the head of Cunningham's Run or Creek. He followed farming for a long period and won success through industry and good management, so that he was able to retire in the evening of life, and for some years lived comfortably in his pleasant home at Chester. He was a man of popularity and influence in his community, and on two occasions was the democratic candidate for the office of sheriff, and on one occasion met defeat by but seven votes, although in a strong republican county. He and his wife were the parents of the following children: Charles B.; Sarah Jane, the widow of John B. Bernard, of Chester; Ida Mary, the wife of A. B. Glass, a retired farmer of Chester; Oscar O.; and Olive E., who was active in the First Presbyterian Church at East Liverpool, Ohio, and died in young womanhood.

Samuel Allison, one of the best known men in Hancock county, died at his home in Chester last night at 5:30 o'clock, after a lingering illness. Mr. Allison was born in Hancock county September 8, 1835, and was a grandson of Jonathan Allison, a pioneer settler. March 19, 1857, Mr. Allison was married to Miss Eliza Finley, who with the following children survives him; Ex-Sheriff Charles F. Allison, Mrs. James Bernard, Mrs. A. J. Glass and O. O. Allison, cashier of the First National bank, all of Chester, Nine grand-children also survive. A brother, James Allison, resides near the Washington school house. Mrs. Robert S. Sellers, of East Liverpool, is the only surviving sister. Mr. and Mrs. Allison lived on a farm in Grant district, three miles back of Chester, until 12 years ago, when they retired from active life and settled in Chester to spend their remaining years. Mr. Allison was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and an elder in the Fairview church for many years. He and Mrs. Allison celebrated their golden wedding on March 19. It was the intention of their children to fittingly celebrate the occasion at that time, but owing to the illness of their father the event was deferred until he had recovered from his illness. However, Mr. Allison did not show any signs of growing better and gradually sinking lower until his death. He rallied somewhat during the middle of last week, but it proved only temporarily. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Allison lineage back to Thomas Allanson, English extraction, London.
