Maria A. Dues peacefully slipped away February 11, 2019. Maria was born on July 18, 1931 to Joseph J. & Mary (Kaup) Dues. At the age of 13 Maria entered the Precious Blood Convent in Dayton, Ohio. She worked at the St. Joseph Orphanage, caring for the six to twelve year old boys. Maria also worked at Kneipp Springs, Indiana while taking classes at the University of Dayton, where she received her degree in education. Maria then taught many years in California and Arizona. She then moved back to Ohio to teach at Cleveland, Columbus Grove, and Queen of Martyrs in Dayton.
Maria is survived by her five sisters and in-laws: Wilma Naber of Minster, Helen Homan of Coldwater, Jeanette & Howard Osterholt of St. Henry, Marilyn & Will Froelich of Coldwater, Mary Ann & Don Post of Coldwater, Margaret “Wilma” Dues of Eaton, Barb Walkley-Dues of Michigan, Joan Dues of Coldwater and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Also special friends Sister Rosemarie Lipps, Tom Belcher, of Dayton and Jim Goldschmidt of Florida. Jim was one of her students at the orphanage and to this day was still sending cards and flowers on Mother’s day. Maria is preceded in death by her parents and siblings and in-laws; Genevieve & Gregor Schmitz, Harold & Helen Dues, Wilfred Dues, Joe & Colleen Dues, Betty Meyer, Stanley & Dorma Dues, Lowell Dues, Gregor Dues, Leroy Huelsman, Vern Naber, Tom Homan, and Bill Billerman Sr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic church in Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Friend may call from 8:30 to 10 am Thursday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. Memorial donations may be made out to State of the Heart Hospice. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
