Betty R. Devore, age 89 of Mattoon, IL passed away at 4:45 A.M., Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Lakewood Village in Charleston, IL.
A funeral service in her honor will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 18, 2019 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938; Reverend Ian Stamps will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Betty was born February, 20, 1929 in Flora, IL to the late Walter F. and Mary G. (Jones) Corry. She married Lindell K. Devore on December 8, 1947 in Morganfield, KY; he preceded in death in 1996. She is survived by her two sons, Roger K. Devore and wife Cecelia of Lebanon, IL, Curtis D. Devore and wife Pamela of Charleston, IL; two grandsons, Nick Hess of Sullivan, IL, Cory Devore of Charleston, IL; and four great-grandchildren, Avery and Reagan Hess, Wilson Morgan, and Waylon Devore.
She is preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Betty was a longtime and retired employee of General Electric in Mattoon, IL. She was devout member of Broadway Christian Church and a woman of great faith. She was an extraordinary cook that passed on her cooking skills to her family. She enjoyed going to the family farm in Xenia, IL, fishing in the north during the summer months and spending time in the south during winter months. Betty loved nothing more than her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and her memory will live on through them.
