Vernie Albert Simmons, age 85, longtime Wellington resident, died January 31, 2019. He had worked as a Planner at Boeing Aircraft for many years.

Vernie was born on October 1, 1933 in Kay County, Okla. to Jesse Franklin Simmons and Florence May (Gardner) Simmons. He was raised in Oxford, and graduated from Oxford High School. Vernie served in the United States Air Force from January 1953 – December 1956.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Tammy Sue Putter and Debby Lee Simmons; three brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include two grandsons, Kelley Putter and Kris Putter; son in law, Larry Putter and daughter in law, Jana Putter; sister, Freda M. Fry; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services were held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford. Pastor Zane Brooks officiated.

In honoring Vernie’s wishes there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established with the Avenue of Flags in lieu of flowers.

Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
