Charles Wilson Kello, Jr., of Norfolk, VA, passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2019, surrounded by family.

Charlie, as he was known by most, was born in Norfolk on March 24th, 1921, and lived in Tidewater all of his 97 years. He was a master craftsman, capable of many, many forms of artistic and creative expression. Commercial artist by profession, but also fine artist, musician, carpenter, metalworker… he could do it all at a professional level. He was a true polymath, interested in everything, able to do virtually anything. By his example of hard work, excellence, and devotion to his family, he constantly inspired his children and grandchildren, all of whom knew him well, loved and revered him, and cherished their time with him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Myrtle Kathaleen Kello, by his half sister Myrtle Hershberger, by his daughter Patricia Charlene MacLean, by his son Charles Wilson Kello III (an artist taught by his father and well-known in the Tidewater community), and by his grandson Brandon Michael Kello. Charlie leaves behind his wife of 11 years, Lillian G. Kello, and his children John Edward Kello (and wife Kim), Robert Michael Kello (and wife Kristine), and Lisa Sue McNeal (and husband Matthew), as well as 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

His family celebrates his life, and expresses our collective gratitude that we not only knew and were inspired by this extraordinary man, but we carry him inside us, heart, mind, and spirit. He showed us what it means to truly love your family. We feel him every day.

The Kello family offers their heartfelt thanks to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints for the extraordinary kindness the brothers and sisters from Norfolk and Virginia Beach have shown to Charlie. We also thank the heroic staff at Bayside Health and Rehabilitation and Intrepid Hospice for their constant support and care. Remarkable people indeed.
