Claude Jacob Jungman entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his residence in Premont, Texas at the age of 96. He was born on January 31, 1922 to Edwin Mitchell Jungman and Helen Elizabeth Schneider Jungman in Devine, Texas. Claude was raised for most of his childhood in Bigfoot, Pearsall and Devine, Texas where he would hunt and fish along Chacon Creek with his cousins and uncle, Ellex. He traded his hog crop, sow and nine little ones, for tuition for business school in San Antonio, where he would walk nine miles to and from Lytle, Texas. Claude then entered into the United States Navy where he proudly served during World War II, spending most of his time aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Fanshaw Bay. He always mentioned that he loved eating Van Camp’s Pork and Beans with his friends in the Rocky Mountains while he served and while fishing for trout on his family trips to Yellowstone.
Claude became a teacher and coach for Hebbronville, Weslaco and Premont schools. While coaching in Weslaco, he met the sweet Home Economics teacher, Mary Beth Raymer, they married and thus begun their journey of 65 wonderful years together. Claude then served as the Superintendent in Hebbronville and Premont for many years until his retirement. He was known to be very caring and enjoyed spending time with his students and players over the years which many of them were very grateful for and would come by to visit him many years after graduating from school. Claude was very successful in his baseball coaching abilities and he was very proud of that. He loved to golf, spending many hours at the Falfurrias Golf Corse, and visiting Yellowstone in the summers with his family was a pastime he enjoyed. He was an avid camper, fisherman, hunter and all around outdoorsman who also enjoyed spending many hours in the backyard gardening, particularly watching and listening to the hummingbirds. He appreciated the company of the many pets he had throughout his lifetime.
Claude is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Ann Jungman; brothers, Alvia Jungman, Walter Jungman and infant brother, Paul Anthony Jungman and sister, Lucille Rihn. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Jungman; son, Paul Jungman; daughter, Susan Elizabeth Jungman all of Premont and several nieces and nephews.
