Emil went to a one room country school, graduated from Ellendale High School, and attended College in Minneapolis, MN, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree. In 1954, he joined the Navy earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served in the military for 22 years. On November 29, 1962, he married Arlene Lucille Whitney in Idaho Falls. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where Emil worked as a Machinist and Mechanic for Argonne National Laboratories. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Assistant Ward Clerk, Stake Sunday School Counselor and Ward Sunday School President. He liked to hunt, fish, camp, snowmobile, and four wheel and loved to work on and repair anything with a motor or engine. Survivors beside Arlene included: daughters Terri (Eric) Hatch of Sheridan, WY, and Kristin (Rick) Wood of Houston, TX; sister Betty Christensen of Crystal, MN; and 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding were brothers Ernest, George, Otto, Laudie, Taft, and Wayne Whitney, and sister Lillian Knapp. Funeral services held December 22nd at Idaho Falls Mill Run Ward at 2020 S. Charlotte Drive. Bishop Greg Sharp officiated. Military Rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Navy Honor Guard.
