MILITARY HONORS

James W. Blattel, age 69, of Jackson, passed away at home, Thursday, December 13, 2018 with his family at his side. He was born October 3, 1949 in Cape Girardeau, son of James G. and Lillian V. Jackson Blattel. He and Doris Jean Proffer were married April 28, 1973.

Jim was a 1968 graduate of Notre Dame High School. In his high schools years he worked mowing lawns during the summer months and part – time at Blattel's Shell Service Station. After graduation he went to work at Rueseler's Chevrolet and ABC Supply. Jim served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. Jim worked 33 years for the United States Postal Service as a carrier and maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Church in Sikeston, Missouri.

Loving survivors include his wife Doris of 45 years; two daughters, Heather (Kody) Newkirk of Cape Girardeau, Jaime (Charles) Williams of Jackson; and one son Brandon (Nancy) Blattel of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Kaya and Kiana Newkirk, Corie, Jalen and Cameron Williams, and Boyd and Piper Blattel; two sisters, Linda (Larry) Summers and Vicki (Tim) Raines their son Adam of Cape Girardeau; four sisters- in- law Carol (Bob) Schweigert of Bloomington, Illinois, Janet (Carl) Bollinger of Patton and Brenda Yamnitz of Jackson, Joyce (Terry) Clippard of Indiana and one brother-in-law Bud Proffer of Panama City, Florida. Also surviving is an uncle, Joe Jackson, two aunts, Florence Harris and Peg Blattel; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother William.

The visitation will be from 2-4 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The funeral service will be at 10 AM Monday, December 17, 2018 at the funeral home, with Dr. Rick Anderson officiating.

Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with military honors.

The family suggests that contributions be made to Wounded Warriors, or Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri.
