William (Bill) L. Anderson, 98, Wichita, formerly of Delphos, KS passed away November 22.
He was born on September 17, 1920 in WaKeeney, KS to John A. Anderson and Lucy (Jones) Anderson-Twombly-Chambers.
After high school, he moved to Los Angeles where he worked at North American Aviation Co., and later joined the Navy in 1943.
From 1946-1950, he attended college at Washburn University earning a bachelor's degree in Education. After graduating from Washburn University, he went on to teach and coach (football, basketball, and track) at Bancroft, Oneida, Goff, Simpson, and Delphos. Furthering his education, he earned a master's degree from Emporia State in 1969. Bill taught and coached in Delphos until his retirement in 1984.
In 1951, he married Doris I. Pilcher in Fayetteville, AR and a daughter was born to this union, Marla in 1955.
He was deeply committed to Delphos by serving as mayor and on the boards for the nursing home and cemetery. He was also a member of the Shriners for over 75 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife Doris I. Anderson and great-grandson Deangelo Walmsley; brothers Carroll Anderson, Larry Chambers; sisters Myrtle Casey, Nelda Begnoche, June Cooper and Joan Brown.
Survivors include: daughter Marla (Tom) Walmsley of Bel Aire, KS.; grandsons Brandon (Kacey) Walmsley of El Dorado, Adam (Liz) Walmsley of Wichita; great-grandchildren Hanna, Hallie and Jordan Walmsley.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 11, 2019 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time. Burial will be in the Delphos Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Delphos Presbyterian Church or the Delphos Senior Center.
