Katie Mai Chessor Bates, age 98, went home to be with the Lord on November 9, 2018, in Maryville, Tennessee. Born on August 23, 1920, in Hickman County to Noah and Mattie Carson Chessor, she was raised on Sulphur Creek before the family moved to Centerville, where she lived until 2011 before moving to Maryville ,TN to be close to her daughter.
In her younger years, she worked as a supervisor at Southern Sportswear, and was a longtime employee at Liberty Pharmacy until her retirement. She and her husband Byron were active members of the Centerville Church of Christ for many years. After moving to Maryville, she attended the Laurel Church of Christ in Knoxville, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Byron Edward Bates; brothers, Ralph and Grady Chessor; sisters, Wylodene Armstrong, Agnes Dotson and Jesse Troupe. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Jimmy Jones of Maryville; grandchildren, Emily (Alex) Stephens of Hermitage TN and Michael Jones of McFarland, Wisconsin. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Grayson Stephens of Hermitage, and several nieces and nephews.
Katie was a friend to everyone and loved by many. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.
Burial in the Chessor Cemetery in Centerville, TN.
