Mrs. Grace Bitner Smith, eighty, 517 W. Orange St., widow of Samuel B. Smith, died at 8 a.m. Saturday at Osteopathic Hospital after a prolonged illness. Her late husband, who died May 31, 1952, was president of the board of directors of Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital, and secretary of the Steinman Hardware Co. before his retirement. She was the mother of Harold E. Smith, owner of Harold E. Smith Co., wholesale distributor of industrial supplies, Lancaster; and Samuel B. Smith Jr., secretary of Lancaster City School District. She was the mother-in-law of John C. Truxal, vice president and branch manager of Lancaster County National Bank. Mrs. Smith was born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Abraham and Anna Hostetter Bitner. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights Templar, Number 13. Surviving are two sons and one daughter: Harold E., Samuel B. Jr., and Edith, wife of John C. Truxal, all of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ralph Hostetter, Lancaster; and four brothers: Walter D. Bitner, Akron, Ohio; Robert Bitner, Sellersville; Clarence Bitner, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Charles Bitner, Ontario, Calif. (Sunday News - Jan 4, 1959)
