REMEMBERING JOHN LAVERNE RADER
John L. Rader, 87, of Zelienople died Wednesday at his home surrounded by his family.
Born June 6, 1922, in Zelienople, he was the son of the late Daniel and Amanda (Hartzell) Rader.
Mr. Rader was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran who was awarded two Bronze Stars.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Zelienople, the Butler County Horseshoe League and Zelienople American Legion Post 474.
Mr. Rader retired in 1982 from Arco Palmer, a division of Atlantic Richfield.
He enjoyed woodworking and camping at the Maple Springs Campground.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis E. Rader of Ellwood City and Gary L. Rader and his wife, Goldie, of Zelienople; a daughter, Cherie E. Rader and her husband, Dan, of Zelienople; three sisters, Ethel Mae Hannah of Evans City, Doris Murray and her husband, Edward of Zelienople and Arlene Lackey of Cowansville; a brother, Eugene Rader of Zelienople; and a son-in-law, Donald Rape of Zelienople. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Barnes) Rader who died April 26, 2009; a daughter, Raelene Kay Rape; and a daughter-in-law, Judith Rader.
RADER - Friends of John L. Rader, who died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Boylan Funeral Home Inc., 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be held 4:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 215 N. Main St., Zelienople. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the church hall for a time of fellowship. Evening visitation will resume from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
